Default Function Help

I am trying to create a funtion that will take a certain text string like "R
& C" and assign a number value like "12" to a separate, refernced cell. Is
this possible? I have been looking throught he Excel functions for awhile and
I just can't find the right one.

Nothing built in but by using VBA
