Addition to if when cell is blank

Hi everyone,

Well! I've been trying to add to the formula supplied by Frederik and Joe so
that a blank " " will be returned if A12 is blank. Can anyone help me please?

Here's what the formula supplied by F & J

=IF(AL12<-5,"q",IF(AL125,"p",1))
