Default ALT E Problem in Excel

I routinely use the ALT E function to access "paste special" and when I type
ALT E the drop down box for all of the Edit functions used to appear.
Without any changes made by me, now when I type ALT E, it only highlights the
Edit on the toolbar. I have to push the down arrow to get the drop down box.

Anyone know what setting may have been changed and how I might change it back?

Has another menu been added to the menubar that uses an "E" as the
activating character?
If so, Excel will just switch back and forth between the two menus when you use Alt + E.

Just to add to Jim's response...

I saved this from a previous post that used alt-w. So each time you read w,
think e.

====

I think you have two controls that each have an accelerator key of w.

If you watch the toolbars and hit alt-w, you should be able to see what controls
are being activated. If you can't see it, try hitting alt-w, then enter to
activate that control.

After you find the second (or more???) controls that use alt-w, you'll have a
choice.

Do you use that other control?
If no, you could remove it from the toolbar (or close that toolbar)

If yes (but not by shortcuts), you could remove that accelerator key from that
control.
Tools|customize (just to see that dialog)
Right click on the control that you want to "fix"
Remove the ampersand (&) from the Name property.
And then close that dialog.

I have not added any additional menu commands and ALT E works fine in Word,
but not in Excel. It actually goes to the "Edit" command on the toolbar, but
the dropdown does not show up unless I hit an arrow key.

Thanks for any help.

Hit alt-e a few times.

You'll see that different things are highlighted on (maybe different toolbars).
Watch the toolbars and hit the alt-e a few times in succession and you may find
it easier.

Thanks, Dave, you helped me fix a problem that I didn't even realize that I
had! And now I also know how to assign shortcut keys to my macros! Thanks
for your help!
