Default excel 2007 sort problem

I have an excel 2007 worksheet - originally in 2003. All I need is a sort by
last name/first name - which worked fine in 2003 using A-Z - but now I can
add new names and they do not sort correctly??? It's a basic alpha sort,
works randomly..
Anyone have any idea what the cause might be, or what to look for to trouble
shoot it????

any advice would be appreciated!
thanks - Cindy

Excel 2007 sort works basically the same as Excel 2003, except you can sort
up to 64 levels.
Do you have your last names in one column and first names in another column
or are the names in one column like Lastname, Firstname?
Give us an example

Default excel 2007 sort problem

Last name in one column - first in the next
200+ names sorted correctly
if I type in new people - end of list
I can type in my last name - no first name - do A-Z on the last name - it
sorts right
I type in Anderson - no first name - it goes to the top of the list (there
are others "A" names that should be before it) when sorted

This is for a business client, when thye add a name the doesn't sort
correctly, they cut/paste it into the right position, after that - they tell
me it stays there correctly when resorted.
There are no leading spaces.... they upgraded from 2003 to 2007 in August,
it has been happening ever since.
thanks for taking the time to reply - it is good to know that the sort works
the same, just the levels have been added...
