Default formulas appear in cell as entered..

whatever function (eg. "=sum(A1:A10)") I typed into the cell, the formula
just appeared as normal text, displaying exactly what I typed in.

how can I get it to work?

I do not think this is due to the manual calculation update option, as it
has been set to automatic..

any help is appreciated.. thanks!

Gene, sounds like the cell is formatted as text, format to general or
something else and reenter the formula
