Default disable get pivot table function

There are instructions here for adding the Generate GetPivotData button
to a toolbar, and toggling the feature on and off:

When it's turned off, you will create a normal reference when you click
on a cell in the pivot table.

I have the same problem. It worked great in earlier Excel version but now
2003 has this anoying GETPIVOTTABLE function. Did you ever find a way to
disable this?

Want to create formulas outside of a pivot table yet still reference the data
within the pivot table. I can manually write the cell name such as
=E7+E9....but want to create the formula by clicking in the cell without
automatically getting the getpivottable funtion. Is it possible to disable
this function? I use the get pivot table function quite frequently and
successfuly but in this instance don't want it.
