I have a password protected spreadsheet that only allows end users to enter
data into specific cells. Is it possible to allow the end user to format (bold, italics, color) those specific cells, also? Currently, no formatting is allowed because the spreadsheet's protected and locked. Thx much! |

Either they can't format any cells, or they can format all cells. |

When you protect the worksheet, you can allow formatting.

I don't think that feature is available in all XL versions. I'm not sure
when it was added. "Barb Reinhardt" wrote: When you protect the worksheet, you can allow formatting. If using Excel 2002 or newer you can designate "allow formatting" on those
specific cells when you are protecting the sheet under ToolsProtectionProtect Sheet Gord Dibben MS Excel MVP On Mon, 16 Apr 2007 14:58:03 -0700, Ang wrote: I have a password protected spreadsheet that only allows end users to enter data into specific cells. If using Excel 2002 or newer you can designate "allow formatting" on those specific cells when you are protecting the sheet under ToolsProtectionProtect Sheet .... In Excel 2003 in the Protect Sheet dialog under the 'Allow all users of this worksheet to:' section there's a checkbox labeled 'Format cells'. If I check it and click the OK button, I can format BOTH locked and unlocked cells. If when protecting the worksheet I UNcheck the 'Select locked cells' checkbox, then I can only select unlocked cells in that worksheet. However, I could select both the protected worksheet and another worksheet in which there were either no or different selection restrictions, then I could format the cells in the grouped worksheets, thereby formatting locked cells in the protected sheet. Or did you mean something else? |
