Default Can you merge cells in a "list"?

I am trying to create a list but the last column has several columns merged.
When i pick create list from my selection it breaks the merged cells into the
original columns and I can merge them back. Is there a way around this? The
list has to sit uner other data but I need more space in the final column to
add notes. Its for a form.

Thanks

Hi Jules,

I tried copying a merged format onto the last cell of a "list" and the cell
beside it, and I got the following error:

....A list cannot overlap... merged cells.

First copy the list to an unformatted range of the spreadsheet, and paste as
values. To paste as values: Edit menu, select Paste Special, Values, Ok.

Second copy the format from your form and paste as format. To paste as
format: Edit menu, select Paste Special, select Formats, Ok.
