Default Setting password on worksheet in Excel 2000

Has anyone had the problem of setting a password on a worksheet in Excel
2000 (MS Office 2000 Pro. Suite). It will let me go through the routine of
creating the password and it indicates that a password has been set, but
when I reopen the spreadsheet it doesn't ask me for the password, it simply
opens to the worksheet.

Any help you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
William

Passwords don't quite work like that in Excel. You won't be asked for the
password unless you try to Unprotect it. Same for Workbook Password.

The workbook and worksheet passwords only protect the content/structure of
the workbook - not access to them. At the worksheet level, the password
really only has an impact on attempting to alter things associated with cells
that have been formatted (Cells | Format | [Protection] tab) as 'Locked'.

If you want to require a password to open the workbook, follow this process:

Choose File | Save As
In the save as dialog, look near the upper right for an [Tools] drop-down.
In it there is an item [General Options] - clicking that will get you a
dialog that will have options to require a password to open it and/or
password to modify the workbook contents once it's open.

Hope this helps some.
