Default "Additonal Numbers adjacent to it"

On some of the cells in my Spreadsheet (not all) a Diamond shape appears and
clicking on it displays the following message:

The formula in this cell refers to a range that has additional numbers
adjacent to it.

What is the cause of this message and how can I prevent it from being
displayed.

Thanks in advance
