Default Excel database query from quickbooks

Has anyone attempted to create a query from quickbooks into Excel? I need
more detail on reporting than the canned reports in quickbooks and excel
query may be the answer. If anyone has any thoughts, I would appreciate it.

I haven't queried the QB database, what I do is run Sales by Customer detail
reports to export all the transaction lines for all invoices (based on date
and Customer contraints). I export that report to Excel and create pivot
table reports.

After awhile, the data got to be too much to hold in Excel, so I exported it
to an Access database, which I add to each week.
