Default How do I assign an invoice number using the invoice toolbar?

Microsoft Excel has an invoice toolbar that has several buttons - one of them
can be used to assign an invioce number. It never works for me so obviously
I am doing something wrong.

The invoice toolbar isn't a standard Excel feature. It was part of a
template issued some years ago (produced by another company) which doesn't
fully work with later versions of Excel. Gord Dibben is the expert, and
there are plenty of discussions if you search the Google archive.
http://masl.to/?O4F624B6E gives a few.
