Not sure if this is what you're asking for, but if you go to cell b3 and
enter (Without quotation marks)

"=A1"

Then anything you put into A-1 will appear in B3.

You can also arrange for formulas to be completed this way... if, say, cells
A-1 and A-2 are numbers you want to add, then in A-3 you can type "=A1+A2"
and it will add anything put into A-1 and A-2 (The 'SUM' function can also
be used).

i'm wanting to setup a checkbook. so i just have to enter the number(120) in
one cell "A1" and like "One hundred and twenty dollars appears in b3

OK, that's not so bad, either.

Click inside B3 so the cell is highlighted. Select "Format Cells" and the
"Format" box will appear.
Click the "Numbers" tab and on the left you'll see a list of options for
formatting numbers. On the right is specific options within those number
types.
Click on "Currency" and and the Currency options will appear. Select "$"
and 2 decimal places (or none, if you prefer) and click "OK" Now the cell
is set up to display in dollars (You can do the same with A-1 if you want,
too!)

Then, as I said before, just use the "=A1" formula in that cell, and
whatever number you type in A-1 will appear, as "$..." in B-3, so "120" in
A-1 would cause B-3 to display "$120"
