Default find number in multiple columns and rows

I've got a spreadsheet with data in the following manner

Date NUM1 NUM2 NUM3
3/10/2006 1 2 5
3/11/2006 2 3 1
3/12/2006 1 4 2

I need to find the first reference to the number 2 in the list from columns
B-D and return the date from Column A

How are you defining "first". i.e. row-wise or column-wise? i.e what;s
the answer for the above data, C2 or B3?
