Default Entering date and time with a formula

I would like to add the date and time data was entered into a specific cell.
For Instance, my formula would be something like:

If A1 is populated, enter the date and time the cell is populated into F1.

Is that possible? If not, does anyone have any idea how I can gather that
information, if I cannot do it with a formula?

Sorry - I didn't see my earlier posting of yesterday and thought it had not
posted for some reason. I then found it later. Thank you Biff for
responding. I will check it out! Thanks!
