Default Excel: Is it possible to count the number of "yes" answers?

I have a column of "yes" and "no" answers in a spreadsheet and I'd like to
create a formula that will count how many "yes" and "no" answers I have. Can
Excel do this?

Gina, =COUNTIF(A:A,"yes") =COUNTIF(A:A,"no")
