Default Empty Chart Values

I am building charts based on a range of cells that contain names for
the X-Axis value. All works well except that blank values in the
range produce empty wedges & columns with no value, this is OK but it
makes the chart wider than necessary.

Is there a way to make the chart use only the cells that have a value?
