Default Buying mathematical algorithms vs. programming

I was wondering if you had any experience of buying mathematical algorithms vs. programming them yourselves? There are some libraries where you can download unlimited algorithms for $3000/year (like www.nag.com). Do you think this makes sense for people trying to program complicated mathematical algorithms? Does anyone have actual experience with such a service, or making a choice?
