Default dropdown menu ? other ideas?

My company makes tubes. The tubes have different inside diameters,
and wall thicknesses. All of these tubes, start from 1 size tube,
then they get drawn down (extruded) into different sizes. For
example, if I needed a tube that was .250 inch inside, and .050 wall
thickness, I have to go through 5 steps from the original part. To
get a tube .125 inch ID and a .050 wall thicknesses, I have to go
through 7 steps from the original part. NOW..I can also get from the
first tube I mentioned, to the second in 2 steps. I have 84 total
tubes combinations when it comes to the final part. They can all
come
from the original 1 size, or I can get from any size larger tube to
any size smaller tube.
I want to write a spreadsheet where someone can select the tube they
have now, and then the tube they NEED, and it will list the steps
needed to get to that point. What is the best way to go about that?

awesome..the only thing is this reads like a different language to me,
I will do all of the work, just asking for suggestions as to which one
of these you think would best solve my issue. I will download that
one and fill in all of the info, etc

sheet for me, just
as someone with the knowledge you have, would like you to help me find
which one
of those sheets will be best suited for my issue

Please learn to refer to excel files as file or workBOOKS. Sheets are
tabs within the workbook. Read her documentation and download several
to see which fits your needs. If you need custom work, post back.

Can you come up with a set of generalized rules that can be applied to
each size transformation (drawing down the tube to a different diameter
and thickness) or does each one have to be hard coded? What I mean is
can you determine what each step in the process will be based on the
current condition (size, wall thickness, etc.) and the target
condition, i.e. can you come up with a complete set of logical rules
that will apply to every possible starting condition, that will be able
to produce every possible ending condition?

You have not mentioned the height of the tubes.
Do they not play any crucial role when converting one product to
another?
