Default Excel in use

Hi All,

My colleague and I share a workbook on a server and make, both of us,
updates to it. When my colleague has the workbook open, I normally receive a
warning that the workbook is already in use by him and vice versa.

From time to time, one of us does not get the warning when the other has the
workbook open. This is annoying because by not getting the warning, we may
overwrite the updates of the other and are not aware of it. The only reason
I can think of is that we get disconnected from our intranet - portable to
stand-by to take to a meeting...

I googled a bit on this and found some solutions but they are al to test if
a file is open while I would like to test it when I open our file. Second
issue is that about 25 man can open the file in read-only and there are
always some people who have the file open.

I was thinking also to put something in a cell when one of us has the file
op en in write mode and to clean it when the file is closed. But this is not
reliable in case of a system/application crash.

Any suggestion will be much appreciated. TIA.

With kind regards,

JP

Pull down Tools / Share Workbook. The drawback is, you won't be able to see,
let alone edit, any VBA code.
