Default .xls is loced for editing

Hello,

I have a workbook that is not open but get the following when trying to open
the file.

Name of file.xls is locked for editing by username

it goes on to say open read only etc.

I checked the file location and find no temporary file and the file is
definately not open.

Is there a way to get the computer to release the file (or whatever is
causing this) to stop?

Thanks for any suggestions you may offer.

I have sen this problem when files are on Network Drives. You can't see
which files are locked on the Server if you are running on a remote PC.
Usually you have to wait until the server is rebooted before the file is
released. I usually just make a copy of the file and work wiht the copy
until the file gets released. Usually most servers will get rebotted
once a week and thats when the file will get released.
