Default Excel 2007 and Mapping Schemas

I am looking for assistance with an issue using XML Schemas in Excel 2007. I
am trying to bind elements from the XML Source window using a complex schema.
I believe the complexity of the schema is causing the issue. The schema is
based on a core element schema and an extension schema. The schema I am
trying to map to uses various uses complex types created in the extension
schema as an extension of a base type in the core element schema. This
layering seems to be what is causing the issue with Excel, but I wanted some
validation. Is Excel only able to handle simplistic flat schema?

The issue I am having is that I cannot map the value of an element in my
message schema. Excel only displaces the attributes and not the element
value holder.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
