Default problem to add reference in vb.net 2003

i am having a project which was developed 2-3 yrs back. its basically cretes excel reports from sql server database. i got assigened some issue on it, but it gives error like
"Type 'Excel.Application' is not defined.". I added excel reference from Add reference menu, it also shows in reference list but still the same prob was there. and also i could not see excel objects in intellisense.

any pointers would be appriciated.
