When I reopen it, it reverts to 1,225,127,812 which is the proper numerical
use of commas however, even if I define it as a text or general field it
still doesn't work. I can't make a custom field because the data isn't
necessarily 4 digits, 4 digits , 2 digits it changes.

Hi Lisa

Put a single quote sign ' before the numbers, the ' sign will not show
but excel will recognize the numbers as text.
