yes, I could do that.

I'd still want the full description in the detail data, so I'd end up with
two columns in the detail... the original, and the left 50.

If there's not a better way, perhaps I'll do that.

could you add another field onto the data that truncates "Description"
to 50 and then use that in the pivot?
