Default Excel 2000-03 WB suddenly missing command buttons on sheet @Start

My Excel workbook works in Excel 2000 and later versions. Suddenly now all
the command buttons that were programmed and put on the main worksheet which
used to appear on startup on the main worksheet are gone on startup. I used
to be prompted for permission to run macros upon opening the workbook and
always answered yes. Now I was not prompted when opening the workbook. I
checked security and it was set to low.

I don't know what happened.
I need to know why those command buttons disappeared and how to get them
back. I'm using Excel 2003 on win xp home sp2.
