Access or Excel ?

Clara thank you so much for your help Honestly, I'm not sure how one could go about sufficiently answering this question. Both MS Excel and Access are powerful tools. Probably the best "broad" definition would be that Excel is a spreadsheet that handles analysis well (i.e. financial analysis, manipulating data, inputting formulas, etc.) and Access is a database that also handles analysis well (i.e. query data from tables, add built-in functions to the query, etc.). Excel has a spreadsheet size limitation of 256 columns and 65,536 rows per worksheet, and Access has no limitation. Typically, people will use Access to keep track of their "data warehouse" (or in other words their business information) and then analysts will query Access to obtain information, put the information into Excel, and use Excel's functions to analyze the data. The power of Excel and Access is amazing! They can do things that you probably can't imagine. Matt |

Access or Excel ?
Excel is not [intended to be] a database. Access is not a spreadsheet application.

Access or Excel ?
I am sure you will get several opinions. Here is mine.
Access is an inteface to a database server/engine and a file format for storing data. Excel is a ledger type application. There is certainly overlap between primary functions and each has added capabilities outside its primary purpose to make it more robust and attractive, but at the heart, they exist for separate purposes. -- Regards, Tom Ogilvy "clara" wrote: Hi all, Could you what kind of strength does Excel have and which area is it used in?
