Is it possible to protect parts of a worksheet, certain cells?
Is there a way to protect certain cells or ranges on a worksheet and leave
the rest unprotected. There are certain ares that I don't want users to change but want to allow them access to others. Can you please provide an example. Thanks, Mike |

Just unlock the cells that do not need protecting. You can select a range
and do this for a large block. Or it may be more efficient to Select All and Unlock, then select a few and Lock best wishes -- Bernard V Liengme www.stfx.ca/people/bliengme remove caps from email "mikeb" wrote in message ... I, of course, meant you do this and then use Tools Protect

Just to add to Bernard's excellent advice, if you have xl2002 or later, you
have additional options. The first article refer to programming approaches and the last two are manual approaches: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...ffice.10).aspx Using the Protection Object to Protect Your Worksheets http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289270 How to apply different passwords or permissions to separate ranges in worksheets in Excel http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826923 Description of options that help you protect your worksheets in Excel 2003 and Excel 2002 -- Regards, Tom Ogilvy "mikeb" wrote: Is there a way to protect certain cells or ranges on a worksheet and leave the rest unprotected. I have the same question, essentially. I want to protect most of a spread
sheet from change by mistake, but want to allow access to change entries in a couple of cells, such as changeing interest rates, but I don't want to have to use a password to do this everytime. -- Gregory "Wei Lu [MSFT]" wrote: Hi , How is everything going? Hi, Before you protect the sheet - Select the range of cells you do not want to protect - Go to Menu Format Cells... - Now select the "Protection" tab in the Format Cells window - Remove the check mark from the check box "Locked" - Click "OK" to close the Format Cells window Now protect the worksheet.. |
