When validating cells is it possible to pick the list critria from a

Yep,
If you insert a Name (Insert-Name-Define) into the sheet on which you have the validated cell, and link that name to the range on the external source containing the list, then link the validation list source to the Name you've just defined, you can do this. If you have a look on the Excel Help Menu for "specify the valid entries for cells" there's a bit more in-depth info about how to do this if you've not linked names to external sources before. Yes it is. Give the list a name (InsertNameDefine...), and then use the
