Default Major Issue - can no longer open my file!!

Is there a way to disable the compiler in Excel prior to opening a file?
I was in the middle of copying and modifying an existing macro when I
had to save the work so that I can do something else here at work.
Unfortunately, when I saved it, I had two macros with the same name.

Now, when I try to open this file, Excel bombs out on me. The auto
recovery files are no good because when I click on an old version, it
gives me a repaired file, but it was repaired by deleting all of my
code!

Somebody, please help.
