Default Entering the date before Automatically

Ok, I need help with a formula I wanna write...
Here's the model:

-In cell A1, I write 1/2/06, and it automatically turns into January 2,
2006.

-In another cell, lets say E28, I want Excel to automatically write the
previous date from cell A1, which in this case would be January 1, 2006

Can someone give me a formula to do this?
Thank you for your effort.

Does entering "=A1-1" in E28 work?
