Starting Excel from a file
My customer has a problem starting Excel from a file. When starting
from the excel.exe all is well. When he double clicks a file to open it Excel takes literally minutes to open itself then the file. No spyware and no viruses are present. I get the feeling this could be the template being corrupt but am not sure. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double clicking on
the file in windows explorer: Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it) --- or --- Close Excel and Windows Start Button|Run excel /unregserver then Windows Start Button|Run excel /regserver The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's factory defaults. beel wrote: My customer has a problem starting Excel from a file. How about a virus checker such as Norton. That might be configured to do a
virus scan of the file. Some other things to try Anyway, in Excel, go to Tools=Options, general tab and make sure Ignore Other applications isn't checked. go to Windows= Start menu (with excel closed) type in Excel.Exe /unregserver and click OK repeat, put put in Excel.Exe /regserver This will freshen Excel's registry settings. Delete all files in the windows Temp directory check the xlStart directory below the directory that contains Excel.exe. Remove files that you are not familiar with from there. Look for any *.xlb files. These hold menu customizations. rename them with other than an .xlb extension. If that doesn't have an effect and you want the customizations, name them back to their old name. -- Regards, Tom Ogilvy "beel" wrote in message oups.com...
