Default Linked cells, VLookup? don't know which to use

I'm fairly new to this & not overly proficient with formulas, this is my
problem. I need to track cash & inventories each week, to do this I have
created a template consisting of 5 worksheets. Each week I create a new file
from the template & save it useing a file name like 20610 Mar.12 2006. When I
open a new file I need to enter opening inventories, which are the closing
inventories from sheet 5 of the previous weeks file. My problem is I want to
automate this step in the template (so I don't have to have 2 files open) but
I don't know how to do this. Can anyone help me with this, anything will be
appreciated Thanks
