Default DDE (VBA Excel) behaves differently in Windows XP

OS: Windows2000 Prof.Ed.
App: Excel2000

I made a Excel VBA function to send characters to another program, using
Sendkeys. Worked fine for two years.

Then we went to Windows XP Prof. and Excel2003.
Suddenly same code behaves differently? Looks like more characters are being
send.

I couldn't find anything on the web, maybe anyone here has any idea what's
going on?
