I have a monster EXCEL file I've designed for others to use and I go to great lengths to protect the equations, so the file will be as idiot proof as possible, since just a few users are not expert ones. However, they just gotcha me, despite my efforts today!
Basically, I have a row of contiguous cells (120 columns' worth) where they can enter 1's to schedule certain events in months 1 through 120 - the cells are empty by default, which implies zero events are scheduled in that month. Apparently what they did is schedule one event per month in months 3 through 9, then decided they'd rather delay it until months 5 through 11. So, they apparently moved the 7 cells in question rather than deleting the 1's in month 3 and 4 and inserting them in months 10 and 11. Since these cells are obviously intended as inputs, cells which I don't want to protect, I don't know how I can stop someone from doing this kind of thing. Quite frankly, though I try to almost never move anything in EXCEL, not all users are that savvy. Are there any easy solutions to make this more idiot proof? Thanks much! Dean |
