How to Link Small Utility to Object in Spreadsheet?
Hi,
I put the graphic image of a calculator on a spreadsheet, and put the following path-filename in the object's hyperlink under "Existing File or Web Page": C:\WINNT\system32\calc.exe. Now, when I click on the image, I get the warning "Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer, etc. Would you like to open this file?" I have to click on the OK button before I can start the calculator. (Wow! Microsoft is warning me about its own file!) My Excel security settings are already as low as I can make them. Any idea about how to avoid this error message? Or, is there another way to embed a little program, such as a calculator, on a sheet? (I also tried to Insert, Object, As Icon, and got worse results.) (By the way, I'm not interested in using the calculator from the toolbar.) Thanks, Dave -- Please delete "ANTI-SPAM" from email address: |

Btw, if you have to resort to the "method 2" method in the article, since
you want to launch an EXE file you would have to edit HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\EditFlags rather than the key in the article. In my case changing the value of that key from 38 07 00 00 to 38 07 01 00 made the alert go away. -- Jim "David Godinger" wrote in message ... | Hi, | | I put the graphic image of a calculator on a spreadsheet, and put the | following path-filename in the object's hyperlink under "Existing File or | Web Page": C:\WINNT\system32\calc.exe. | | Now, when I click on the image, I get the warning "Some files can contain | viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer, etc. Would you like to | open this file?"
