Default Freeze and Split

Perhaps I am confusing printing (where you can set up rows or columns that
repeat on every page) with viewing (which is what I want to do now), but I
thought there was a way to use freeze (panes) and split (screen) so as to be
able to always see, say, the top 3 rows, AND the two leftmost columns, i.e.,
as you scroll around the page, both remain in view. It seems like when I
set one of them up and try to do the other, it removes the first one. Can
someone tell me how to do both together, or some other way to accomplish
what I'm asking for?

Thank you very much!
Dean
