Default Who has this (shared) workbook open

With a shared workbook open, I click on Tools, Share Workbook, and a
box showing a list of people who have the workbook open is displayed.
My name is there at the bottom. The first time I did this with a
certain workbook I saw three entries that were several to many days old
and those same entries stay there day after day. I was wondering if I
could safely delete them and also how they got there.

John,

If something happens that causes a shared workbook to close in a
non-standard manner, the names of users that have it open at the time remain
in the list.

You can delete them. When you do, you'll get a message warning you that if
the user has any unsaved work, it will be lost. Since they no longer
actually have the workbook open, it won't matter -- so go ahead and close
away.
