Default On Event calendar with error handling?

I have been reading up on how to add a calendar to Excel. From what I
can tell the best way is to do it using the ActiveX based Calendar
Control tool which comes when you install access. But the computers
who will be using the file are tightly managed, and so may not have
access, nor the easy ability to install the addin to compensate for
that. Can the standard VBA error handling catch when the files Access
installs are missing, and then just have VBA not try to open the
calendar?
