Default Auto Adjust the Width of a Column

How can I update the width of a column after the data has been entered
to make it fit to the largest piece of data, so I do not get a bunch of
####'s?

I have to mention that I need this so each time I add a new column it
also can be auto fit.

I am using a template and when in the template I have the first column
set to autofit in the template, when I add a worksheet from this
template the column auto fit does not seem to work.

Thanks
