Default Executing a macro in a closed workbook

Hello

I know that you can retrieve data from a closed excel workbook by specifying
the filename path and the range you want.

This time around I want to send values to that cloased workbook, execute a
macro in that closed workbook to manupulate the numbers, and then return them
to my open workbook.

Is that possible or must both workbooks be open at all times? And are there
any code examples of actually performing this task?

I appreciate any advice that can be offered...

Thanks

Alex
