Default IIS, Excel, client server Excel... what direction to take

It seams the solution we have been following is the wrong way to
get excel data to our end users. In and ASP or web based application
environment what is the correct way to get excel files populated with
data from a db into the end users hands?

Are we going to need to have each client setup with a db connection
and macros setup in the excel page for them to view multiple pages of
data? Are we going to need to setup sharepoint?

Is there a BEST PRACTICE for this scenario?
Links or what ever info would be great!

How about getting data into the database from Excel?
