Default Excel spreadsheet is closed

Hi
We have some users on Excel 97. Sometimes when larger spreadsheets are
opened, they are closed in half a second or so, without the users doing
anything. On machines with later versions, this does not occur. Why is this?

Thanks,
Anders.

Can't find anything special except the size. They fail on all machines
running Excel 97, but works fine under Office XP.

Thanks,
Anders.

What size are these sheets? Do these sheets depend on the existence of some
add-in or similar? Do these sheets open in Excel 2000. Are thera any macros
in these sheets?

As far as I know, they are about 1.3 MB. The problems occur with or without
marcos, I do notknow about the add ins.

Thanks.

1.3 MB isn't much, not even for xl97. Have these files been manually created
and then sent to various people within your organisation? Things that often
seem to trigger various bugs within Excel are formatting and pivot tables.
The more you use "fancy" things, the more likely it is that you will get
problems.
