Default Command button on a protected worksheet

I need to protect a worksheet except for designated cells. I have a macro
that will clean those designated cells and I have a command button to
activate the macro. Everything worked well in XP but the button cannot be
activated in 2003 unless the worksheet is unprotected. How do I get my
protection and button activation back?
