Default Loosing combo box ListFillRange

My list fill range on the combo box (made with the Control Tool Box)
properties refers to another open workbook --
[statements.xls]sheet1!v2:v100 --. The workbook the combo box is in is a
template. I save both worksheets as a workspace so both will always open
together.
Lately, when I open the workspace, the combo box has no information. When
checking the properties the listfillrange is still there - but it does not
display in the combo box. To "reconnect" all I have to do is CUT the
listfillrange and PASTE it back in the same properties area. After that it
works fine until I close the workspace again.
Where am I going wrong?
Thanks
