locating given dates from each year in data set
I have a sheet with a bunch of dates in Column A:
For charting purposes, that I am trying to automate, I need Excel to locate the earliest date in the fiscal year cycle. In our case, the date is as close to =10/1 of any given year. I also need to be able to do this for each FY in the data set. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA |

okay, how about if I make this easier and just ask how to write a code that
will return the year of a cell that is formatted with date and military time? Can you give an example of the EXACT contents of a cell? Does Excel recognize
your entry as a date and time, or (because of the time entered without a colon) does it think it's text? This is as formatted by Excel
4/8/97 13:00 Column A is filled with similar date/times that span several years. These cells are used to calculate elapsed time as well as charting of events. When we want to modify charts to look at a given year or given set of years, we need to manually alter the series. My immediate objective is to use excel to automatically identify statistical significance by evaluating blocks of data where each block adds a year until significance is found.
