Default Date problem

Hi

I'd like to verfiy that the user works with the date format "Short Date",
but I don't know how format this. The following function works:

Debug.Print Format(#10/4/2004#,"Short Date")

but this code fails:

Columns(1).NumberFormat = "Short Date"

What am I doing wrong? Many thanks in advance.

Tom
