Default application or object defined error - 5922

Hi
I get this message come up when I run a bit of code that
merges data from an Excel file into a word doc, that I
have all the merge fields set up in.

Weird thing is -- it works fine in one file, it merges
away happily. However in another, it churns up the above
error.
References are all fine, the code is exactly the same,
but in one XLS it works, in the other, it gives the above
message.

Have seen some Knowledge Base articles on this, but they
are not quite the error I'm getting.
Any ideas?!
TIA
Tim
