Select the cell and the one below it (or if you copied the formula down, all
cells with the formula)

Do Edit=Replace
What: =
With: =

then click OK

This is often caused because either the cell with the formula is formatted
as text or one or more of the cells refered to by the formula are formatted
as text.

If the first thing, then format the cells as general (or try the method I
provided above).
