Can you post the formula that you have tried ? but the synatx should be
something like

=VLOOKUP(A1, Sheet2!$A$1:$C$100,3,0)

if its from another sheet in the same book, or

=VLOOKUP(A1, [Book2.xls]Sheet2!$A$1:$C$100,3,0)

if its in another book.

The Paste Function wizard should be really useful to let Excel give you the
right syntax.
